Healthy is Homemade is the class you never knew you needed until now. It's the course I needed years ago.
If you are anything like I was, you are tired of reading every article on the planet trying to figure out what "your version of healthy" looks like.
I was tired of spending countless hours on the internet looking for "healthy" recipes and inspiration that didn't have quinoa and kale served 500 different ways.(insert major eye roll here) I needed more, something more interesting, something tastier, I needed VARIETY!
I also needed a plan. I needed to know where to start, what to do, what to buy before I could even get into 'what to cook'. I wanted veggies that tasted good, that didn't bore me. I needed to understand all of the different diets out there and then how to pick the one(s) that worked best for me. I didn't want a ton of restrictions and I definitely didn't want to lose my love for cooking.
I reached a point where I was cooking the same things over and over again, and I was either going to have to go back to a slightly unhealthier cooking style or I was going to have to do something different. So I did.
In this class, I'm taking you through my process of getting my health & eating under control. One year's worth of lost hours on Pinterest, reading cookbooks until I was blue in the face, going from a 3 week green juice fast, to the day I put gelato in my cream of wheat (don't ask...sigh). I finally landed on a healthy lifestyle that works for where I am right now. And it doesn't feel restrictive.
So if you are ready to draw a line in the sand, and finally get your life together, then keep reading. #TimeOutForPlayingGames
The class has 3 major movements, which cover the phases I went through to get to a better way of eating and cooking.
Section 1. Creating a Healthy Kitchen
This section is all about setting up your kitchen for success. Trust me, its easier to eat healthy when it's convenient and accessible. This was half of the battle.
Purging & Preparing Your Pantry
In this section you will learn about alternative Sweetness, Oils, Vinegars, Grains, Legumes & Flours to add to your pantry. You will also have a listing of recommended spices to keep on hand, that will keep your food interesting and you will also learn how to make your own spice blends to minimize the salt in pre-packaged blends.
In this section, you will learn what equipment every healthy kitchen needs and the importance of having the right tools for the right jobs. You will also learn about the different types of cookware and which ones work best for your lifestyle.
You will also find out the top 3 knives every kitchen needs.
In this section, you will learn what you should be buying regularly, and what a healthy stocked fridge and freezer looks like. You will also learn how to properly store foods in the refrigerator and freezer on how long items last.
Section 2. Creating Healthy Habits
This section is all about setting up systems and routines to keep you on your healthy eating journey. What I realized, was that if I didn't have a plan, I was planning to fail. Which is why I referenced the gelato/cream of wheat low point above. (but again, that story if for another day) Consider systems and routines like guardrails, they keep you from getting too far off track.
Meal Planning & Preparation
You will learn different way to meal plan and how to make it easy. You will also learn how to create a Meal Prep Routine that works with your schedule and how to do it like a professional chef. How to reduce your grocery shopping time, and where to shop to get the best deals
Creating a Healthy Eating Game Plan
Getting Clear on your healthy eating goals. Understanding the different types of “diet lifestyles” and how to choose the best one for you, to eliminate information overwhelm/overload. How to Eat Healthy in a hurry.
Section 3: Creating Healthy Recipes
This section is all about learning how to cook DELICIOUS food, that just so happens to be healthy. It is also about serving as motivation to create some of your own healthy recipes. I tried to start here, I thought that all I needed were the recipes, but I found this to be the easiest part. I still had to get in the kitchen and cook, but most of the hard work had already been done, and now this was just the fun part!
Full length video cooking tutorials
There will be 3-4 recipes for each category with corresponding videos:
My goal is to help you become a better cook, #EatOutAtHome more and show you how to host dinner parties that will literally CHANGE LIVES, like seriously. Just consider me your secret ingredient.
I started cooking when I was 6 years old. I know right??? It was crazy then too. I’ll tell you the entire story another time. I have always had a love for food and that led me to cooking my first Thanksgiving dinner for my family (all by myself) at age 12. By the time I was 15 years old, I was selling my home made pound cakes. But it would be over a a decade, (and two engineering degrees) later that I realized that I wanted to be in food as a career and as a lifestyle. After going to culinary school (savory and pastry), trying my hand at catering, being a personal and private chef, a pastry chef, doing meal planning and some culinary research and development, I found that I was most passionate about teaching others how to enjoy cooking. So now I spend my time teaching online cooking classes and sharing my tips and techniques on how to make cooking stress free to anyone who is willing to listen.
